Week 9 Coach's Letter

 Chillicothe Cavalier Football 2009

“ We are Cavaliers “

“ It takes NO TALENT to play as hard as you are capable of playing…Just Desire  “

Week 9 of the 2009 football season saw our Cavalier football team lose to the Warriors of Warren by a 22-6 count. Warren improves their record to an impressive 7-2 as they continue their hunt for the playoffs. Also Friday night Ohio High School History was made as Bob Lutz of Ironton won his record breaking 361 game as the Head Football Coach at Ironton. Congratulations from the Cavaliers and I am sure the rest of the SEOAL for that accomplishment.

Our players of the game for Jackson were as follows ;

Offense…Sr Receiver Donta Thompson.

Defense…Senior DT Danny Demick

            Special Teams…Freshman Brandon Echard

            Scout Team…Sophomore Rec/DB Cory Wagner

            JV Team…Soph Dereck Milliken

            Freshmen… N/A as Warren forfeited and no game was played

 These players, along with the remainder of our 2009 Senior Class will appear on the Bill Davidson show Tuesday thru Thursday at 6:50 AM on 1490 WBEX.

This week our Cavaliers will return to the road to face the undefeated Chieftains of Logan. Logan is 9-0, ranked in the top 5 in the state in Division 2, and has already qualified for a home playoff appearance next week. This will obviously be a real challenge for our Cavaliers but I am certain we will travel to Logan and play with pride, poise, and passion.

 As always, we hope you support our Cavs, and come to Herrnstein Field this week to enjoy what should be a classic High School football game.

Week 6 of the 2009 football season saw our Cavalier football team lose our second SEOAL game of the  season as Ironton beat our Cavaliers 56-17. The Tigers jumped ahead early and despite our Cavaliers coming back to make it 28-17 in the 3rd quarter were able to cruise to the victory.

 Our players of the game for Portsmouth were as follows ;

Offense…Junior RB Brandon Whittaker

            Defense…Senior Defensive End Logan Reynolds

            Special Teams…Senior Kicker/Punter Drew Basil

            Scout Team…Senior DL Michael Dodge

            JV Team… Freshmen… Receiver/LB Zach Johnson

             These players, along with coaches Mike Brosovich, Rich Beverly, and Ricky Shifko will appear on the Bill Davidson Show Tuesday thru Thursday at 6:50 AM on 1490 WBEX.

            This week our Cavaliers will travel to the river once again to face another long standing rival, The Blue Devils of Gallia Academy. Gallia is struggling themselves this season as they find themselves 0-6. However, this is a big game for both teams as both squads are looking for a win to help turn around their season.

             As always, we hope you support our Cavs, and come to Herrnstein Field this week to enjoy what should be a classic High School football game.

Week 5 of the 2009 football season saw our Cavalier football team lose our SEOAL opening game of the  season as Portsmouth beat our Cavaliers 34-21. The Trojans jumped ahead early and held off a determined 4th quarter comeback.

Our players of the game for Portsmouth were as follows ;

Offense…Junior receiver Isaac Beverly

            Defense…Senior Defensive lineman Danny Demick

            Special Teams…Junior holder/kicker Dylan Osborne

            Scout Team…Senior receiver/DB Keegan Arledge

            JV Team…None as Portsmouth forfeited

             Freshmen… None as Portsmouth/Marietta forfeited

            These players, along with 8th grade coaches Brian Netter, Jamie Norris, and Kirk Rinehart will appear on the Bill Davidson Show Tuesday thru Thursday at 6:50 AM on 1490 WBEX.

             This week our Cavaliers will travel to the river to face perennial Southeastern power Ironton. The Tigers are 3-2 and will certainly be in a bad mood as they have lost their last 2 games. We know the Tigers will play very hard and with a great deal of intensity, as they are coached by one of the High School Legends, Bob Lutz.

             As always, we hope you support our Cavs, and come to Herrnstein Field this week to enjoy what should be a classic High School football game.

Week 4 of the 2009 football season saw our Cavalier football team lose our final non-league game of the 2009 season as we lost to the Zanesville Blue Devils 14-7 in a heartbreaking last minute decision. The Cavalier faithful witnessed a determined effort by our Cavaliers just come up short in the loss to the undefeated Zanesville team.

Our players of the game for Zanesville were as follows ;

Offense…Junior OL Skylar Mallow

            Defense…Junior DE Dylan Osborne

            Special Teams…Senior Michael Dodge

            Scout Team…Sophomore Rec/DB Dereck Milliken

            JV Team…Sophomore LB/RB Marcus Dunn

            Freshmen… Beaux Johnson

            These players, along with our 7th grade coaches ; Bill Bonner , Harold Price, and Chris Mathis will appear on the Bill Davidson show at 6:50 AM on WBEX 1490 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.

            While this loss drops our record to 1-3 we are making strides. We played harder vs Zanesville than we had played all season. While we made mistakes, they were aggressive mistakes and mistakes that can be eliminated

            This week our Cavaliers will host long time SEOAL foe Portsmouth to take on the Trojans in our 2009 Homecoming game. Chillicothe and Portsmouth have a long history with each other, and is probably our biggest rival in football for that reason. Portsmouth is coached by the legendary Curt Clifford and will bring a group of skilled players to Herrnstein Field for the Cavs 1st SEOAL game of 2009.  As always, we appreciate all of our parents and supporters who have encouraged and supported our Chillicothe Cavaliers.

Week 3 Coach's Letter

 Chillicothe Cavalier Football 2009

“ We are Cavaliers “

Week two of the 2009 football season saw our Cavaliers play perennial state power Sunbury Big Walnut. Over the past 3 seasons Big Walnut has posted 36-6 record with a State Championship in 2007. Our Cavaliers played hard and for 2 and ½ quarters stood toe to toe with Big Walnut. At 10-3 at that point Big Walnut scored 2 quick TD’s to take control of the game. The 1st TD was set up by a fake punt and the 2nd TD was a long run. The bright spots for Chillicothe were a 30 yard FG by Drew Basil and a Shay Netter to Dantae Thompson TD pass. Our players of the game were as follows :

Offense           Junior QB/Rec/RB Casey Oates

Defense           Junior DB Kenny Doles

Special Teams Junior Snapper Knut Bonner

Scout Team     Sophomore lineman George Beverly

JV                    Junior Rec/DB Stefan Hinty

Freshman         RB/LB Adam Bixler

             These players, along with Coaches Bobby Kennedy and Brad Basil  will be featured on The Bill Davidson Show on Wednesday and Thursday morning this week.

             This week our Cavs will take on a new opponent in FAVC Wilmington. The Hurriane have lost to W. Carrollton 20-13 and shut out Miami Trace 20-0. At 1-1 both teams will be looking to improve their records before entering league play. Wilmington features an offense that scores on big plays and a defense that has already recorded a shut out in the 09 campaign. Again this week we are working hard to become more consistent on offense, more aggressive on defense, and to utilize our special teams to the most of our abilities.

 We hope you will continue to support and follow these young men as they continue to work and compete. Your support is NEEDED and APPRECIATED.
